Spain's AI voucher for SMEs: what is known and what isn't
On 21 September 2026 the Spanish Government announced, as part of the IA360 Plan, an Artificial Intelligence voucher for SMEs and the self-employed. It has no published rules yet. Here is what has been published, with its sources, and what is still unknown.
What is known
- The Spanish Prime Minister announced it on 21 September 2026 as part of the IA360 Plan, with the goal that by 2030 more than half of companies will have adopted AI. (La Moncloa)
- It will have 600 million euros in a general call expected before the end of 2027, with the goal of reaching 25,000 companies. (Europa Press, in Forbes)
- Before that there will be a pilot in the first half of 2027 with 100 SMEs in two autonomous communities. (Europa Press, in Forbes)
- It will fund AI services and solutions from European technology companies (development, integration, sector knowledge, data processing or process redesign), not simply subscribing to tool licences. (Europa Press, in Forbes; Channel Partner)
- The announced conditions include payment on milestones, AI training for staff, a prior digital maturity assessment, a specific use case and measuring the effect on productivity. (Europa Press, in Forbes)
What is still unknown
- The rules: who can apply, how much each company receives and exactly which costs it covers.
- Which body will manage it and how the companies providing the services are accredited.
- Which autonomous communities are in the pilot and when applications open.
- Whether it will be compatible with other grants.
